The Happiness Project - Short Review

I recently read this very recommended book titled "The Happiness Project" written by Gretchen Rubin. I bought this more than a year ago, when I was frustrated about being work under evil pressure. But I only reached several pages before I was occupied to other activities and left this book deep inside the shelf. I am glad that I decide to give this book another chance, because this is really a great motivational book. I'm not finishing it yet but it really gives me an impact by only reading several chapters.

In general, this book tells about Gretchen's journey to find the way to make herself happier, and reveal the true meaning of happiness itself. As the title said, it is really a "project" that she implemented to her daily life for a whole year long. She made "target" each month that she should fulfill and analysed the impact to her happiness level. The target was actually simple things like boost energy by "go to sleep earlier" or being serious about play by "take time to be silly". She even made daily chart to help her monitoring her progress!

What I like about her writings is that she's not only writing about her opinions, but she also put scientific journal, histories, even tales to support her point of view. You know, happiness is something that pretty much intangible but I saw that she made it more "realistic". Very fun read I must say, and very motivating for me.

So, I really recommend this book for every people interested in happiness topic or for them who just need entertaining read.

Up, Up, Up

Recently I feel the improvement in my current conditions. After writing a depressing post not so long ago, I learned to sort things out. I frequently talk to myself, ensuring that "okay, if you did mistake, do not overthinking it.. Just stay calm, there must be solution for everything.. Everybody did mistake anyway".
I try to straighten the twisted wires inside my head. Sometimes removing the unnecessary wire to make it even simpler.
I even talked to myself in front of the mirror. I have to ensure myself that everything will be just fine. Life goes on anyway.
But the most important thing is I learn to be truly grateful for what I have now. Saying "Alhamdulillah" as much as possible. Satisfaction is not only about achieving things (mostly materials). I think it's more like enjoy everything we have now. No need to look the less-fortunates to be more grateful. Just do not comparing yourself with others.

As the result, I feel more positive now. I feel happier. I was happy before, but I just failed to infuse those happiness into the deeper layer of my mind.

I also did some minor changes and though it looks unsignificant, surprisingly it makes me feel good (good suggestion is really good)

I tried to use stairs as much as I could and went to gym at least once a week for an hour of treadmill exercise.

I drank 3-diva juice (of carrots, apples and tomatoes) almost everyday because I read in an article that it can improve fertility. No, it's still one negative line in my pregtest, but I feel much improvement on my health.

I told more jokes at office.

I try to be more compromising to my husband so that we rarely get into unnecessary fights anymore. Of course my husband also did his part to make it works.

I make to-do lists and feel proud if I could check all the lists.

I actualize the plans I made, such as making handmade ornament for my living room or buying things I've delayed for so long.

I make more comprehensive family financial planning. What I meant with "comprehensive" is actually only listing down the family needs and dividing the money accordingly. We make budget for everything. The rest depends on our persistence.

Those are simple things I do that make my life feel better. I conclude here that minor positive changes could cause significant impact to your overall life.
Yes I admit that sometimes I still feel lazy to do this and that, but at least I know the right track to come back.

I also think that I have to my fix my religious life. That's really a big part, the most essential thing in life that is often underemphasized. Something need to do to improve my faith.

Okay, I think that's all about this post.

Special thanks for my partner in life, the one who always be so patient and supportive all the time. Love you.

Carrots and Another Stories about Balikpapan

Kualitasnya udah ga terlalu bagus. Namun, bagaimana pun kita butuh wortel. Oh supply and demand....

Sekali mati listrik minimal sejam!

Serius.

'We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like

Hehe.

Oh iya, balik lagi ke urusan rumah. Nih penampakan jeroan rumah kami berdua (sori yaa kalo nampak berantakan ;p)

Oke deh, kayaknya sekian dulu  cerita tentang Balikpapan hari ini. Sampai jumpa kembali di post berikutnya!

The Red Date

I really love the "red date" in the middle of the week. It feels like you wake up from your sleep and feel relieved that it's still middle of the night and you have remaining five hours to continue exploring the dream world. Mmm.. maybe not exactly like that, but the "joy" is almost the same.

This morning I woke up earlier and decided to spend this lovely day off's morning by jogging around the neighborhood. By jogging I meant 2 minutes of jogging and continued by slow-walking for 40 minutes with my husband. Cannot believe that I could jog around Sabuga for 5-6 rounds non-stop 4 years ago. My stamina fell down like the current Rupiah's value. Of course I'm blaming my current body weight. And my bad eating habit. And my reluctance to joining the fit and fabulous lifestyle. Okay, at least now I try to make slow-walking as a thrice-a-week routine! Your encourage is highly appreciated.

For breakfast, we ate the chicken teriyaki I made on Sunday (don't worry, it still tasted delicious) then I cooked "pindang udang" for our lunch. That was the first time I used my stone ulekan set to grind the spices. Actually, my husband who did the grinding. He has tougher arm muscle and he, of course, was glad to spend his power on the ulekan.

Too bad the cooking result is kinda disappointed. I thought I put too much water that made the pindang tastes a little bit too plain. But fortunately, my michelin-winning side-dish sauteed oyster sauce broccoli and carrots with tofu had saved our lunch!

So we ate the lunch peacefully while watching Insidious 2. The movie was just so-so anyway; maybe because I didn't watch the first movie and I did not understand some parts. Then we got sleepy and took a nap for around an hour. Honestly, that felt like a bless to take a nap on the working day Tuesday!

Oh I forgot to tell that on this day's bathroom session, I scrub my body with Wardah's olive scrub and instead of using my usual minty dettol liquid soap, I used my precious L'occitane shea butter shower cream (isn't it a very important thing to tell?). After that, I think my beauty upgraded to the Jane Levy's level. Lol.

And now..  here I am writing a nonsense on this blog.

What a beautiful day...

Happy 1st Anniversary!

January 5th, 2013

I finally entered into one of most sacred moments in my life: getting married. At that time, I had just known my husband for less than a year. I still remember the first time I met him. On our office, OFL Building 3rd Floor, he was there typing something on his PC. And I was going to use copy machine. But our first conversation happened when he decided to say hi when he passed my cubicle. Later on, he said that he was attracted to me since he saw me confusing over that copy machine. He even spied on me on facebook to find out whether I'm single or not before he decides to greet me.

Everything progressed very fast.. and in October 13th, we were officially engaged. After the engagement procession, we headed to Jakarta to watch Big Bang concert. He didn't like K-Pop before he met me, but I kinda affected him eventually :p

Then, January 5th 2013, he pronounced the "ijab kabul" and we are officially a partner for life.

Time goes so fast.. It's been a year since our wedding ceremony. There are actually a lot of new things I learn about him and vise versa. Up until now, we still learn to compromise each other's personalities. We had fought lot of times, but we learned to cool the tense and reconcile as soon as possible.

Sometimes, we have to put our ego behind our brain to make our partner happy. It is worth it. Seeing our partner happy makes you feel happier as well. Marriage is really about a balanced give and take.

So, for my dear husband Prayudi Noverri:

Happy Wedding Anniversary!

We shall rock the world

Suddenly, A Sewing Machine...

Suatu saat, saya cerita sama Ibu saya kalau saya mendadak lagi pengen belajar menjahit. Biasalah, saya habis baca suatu blog tentang jahit-menjahit dan jadi terpengaruh *dasar saya gampang kepengaruh*. Saya pikir, lumayanlah buat nambah-nambah hobi, sapa tau bakat terus bisa alih profesi jadi tukang jahit  kalo-kalo saya pengen balik jadi full-time emak RT *ngayal*.

Haha, baiklaaahhhh... mari kita mulai belajar menjahit! Hehe. Tunggu tanggal mainnya sampai blog ini nanti berubah nama jadi arres' sewing diary!
