Lir-Ilir

This is one of my favorite old traditional songs. After doing some researches a.k.a googling, I found that this song was created by Sunan Kalijaga, one of Islam spreaders in Java Island (other versions also stated that the song was written by Sunan Giri or Sunan Ampel).

Lir ilir lir ilir tandure wong sumilir
Tak ijo royo royo
Tak sengguh panganten anyar
Cah angon cah angon penekna blimbing kuwi
Lunyu lunyu penekna kanggo mbasuh dodotira
Dodotira dodotira kumintir bedah ing pinggir
Dondomana jrumatana kanggo seba mengko sore
Mumpung padang rembulane
Mumpung jembar kalangane
Sun suraka surak hiyo

and this is the Indonesian translation of the song

Ayo bangun (dari tidur), tanam-tanaman sudah mulai bersemi,
demikian menghijau terlihat bagaikan pengantin baru
Wahai gembala, ambillah buah blimbing itu,
walaupun licin tetap panjatlah untuk mencuci pakaian
Pakaian-pakaian yang telah koyak sisihkanlah
Jahit dan benahilah untuk menghadap nanti sore
Mumpung sedang terang bulan, mumpung sedang banyak waktu luang
Mari bersorak-sorak ayo

Mmm... I'm kinda missing the gamelan sounds in Perkumpulan Seni Tari dan Karawitan (PSTK) ITB :'(

Even though I'm not a good instrument player (I'm bad in synchronizing the tone), but I like to play it anyway... especially the bonang instrument. Hey, and I haven't finished my bonang lesson in "Surung Dayung" yet!
